India Imposes Anti-Dumping Duty on Chinese TPU Imports

In October 2024, India imposed anti-dumping duties on five Chinese products, including thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), to protect domestic industries from underpriced imports. The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) conducted an investigation and found that TPU imports from China were being sold at prices below normal value, causing material injury to the Indian TPU industry.

The anti-dumping duties on TPU imports from China range from $0.93 to $1.58 per kilogram, depending on the manufacturer. These measures are set to remain in effect for five years, aiming to create a level playing field for domestic producers and prevent further injury from unfair trade practices.

TPU is a versatile material used in various sectors, including automotive, medical, and electronics industries. The imposition of these duties reflects India’s commitment to safeguarding its domestic industries against unfair competition and ensuring fair trading practices.

This action is part of a broader strategy by India to address trade imbalances and protect its industries from the adverse effects of dumping, thereby promoting fair competition and sustainable economic growth.
