Bayer MaterialScience Expands TPU Production Capacity in Cuddalore

In 2015, Bayer MaterialScience, now known as Covestro, expanded its thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) production facility in Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu. The company commissioned a second production line, increasing the site’s annual capacity from 2,500 metric tonnes to 6,000 metric tonnes. This expansion aimed to meet the growing demand for TPU in various industries, including automotive, textiles, footwear, cable sheathing, and adhesives.

The Cuddalore facility produces TPU under the brand name Desmopan, supplying both the Indian market and customers in Europe. The investment reflects the company’s confidence in India’s market potential and its commitment to supporting customer growth with high-quality, locally produced TPUs.

This strategic move aligns with Covestro’s broader objective to strengthen its presence in emerging markets and cater to the increasing global demand for advanced polymer materials.
