In 2009, reports emerged that Flextronics, a leading electronics manufacturing services provider, was considering relocating some of its manufacturing operations from Chennai to Bangalore. The company believed that Bangalore could be a favorable location for producing certain components. However, Flextronics’ spokespersons denied any such plans, stating that the company was not planning to shift its operations.
In 2019, Flex opened its fourth manufacturing facility in India, the Flex Chennai Industrial Park 3, located in Walajabad near Chennai. This 1.59 lakh sq. ft facility was established to expand Flex’s manufacturing operations in India, complementing its existing plants in Sriperumbudur and Poonamallee near Chennai, and one in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh.
As of 2019, there have been no further reports indicating that Flextronics has shifted or plans to shift its Surface Mount Technology (SMT) operations from Chennai. The company continues to maintain a significant presence in the region, contributing to its manufacturing capabilities in India.
