Tamil Nadu has emerged as the leading state for electronic goods exports in India for the second consecutive year. In the fiscal year 2023–2024, the state achieved an export order value of $9.56 billion, which accounts for approximately one-third of India’s total electronic goods exports, valued at $29.12 billion. This remarkable performance represents a 78% increase from the previous year, solidifying Tamil Nadu’s place as the electronics export hub of India.
Several key factors contribute to Tamil Nadu’s success. The state has attracted major international players in the electronics sector, with companies like Foxconn, Flextronics, and Samsung establishing manufacturing operations. This has led to the creation of thousands of jobs, boosted the local economy, and improved the state’s industrial infrastructure.
Additionally, Tamil Nadu’s strong skilled workforce—comprising a high number of engineering graduates—has helped propel its dominance in electronics manufacturing. The state’s business-friendly environment has further contributed by offering attractive investment opportunities, ensuring a stable operational climate for companies to grow.
With exports surpassing $6 billion during the first half of 2024, Tamil Nadu is on track to set another record, continuing to lead the charge in India’s export of electronic goods. As a key player in India’s manufacturing and export sector, the state’s success underscores its pivotal role in the global electronics supply chain, contributing significantly to the national economy.
This growth is also supported by the national government’s policies, which encourage foreign direct investment (FDI) and export promotion initiatives. Tamil Nadu’s ability to maintain its top position in India’s electronic goods exports highlights the state’s strategic role in shaping the future of India’s manufacturing capabilities on the global stage.
